Prior to our July 2004 trip to Sri Lanka with Mfundishi Tayari Casell, we learned of an ancient and very rare martial arts being practiced in Batticoloa. As excited as we were to find them, they were equally as excited to hear of our trip, and to meet and share knowledge. This art has been passed on from family member to family member, and is truly fading into extinction. The tsunami has only made it harder for the youth of the region to stay interested and to devote the time neccessary to perfect this ancient art.

We were delighted to attend a demonstration by several martial artists and their teacher and were presented with a handwritten manuscript which we hope to have published.
