As the stories have unfolded we are realizing that large relief organizations, while successful in obtaining funds and supplies, have been struggling to administer distribution on a local level. Consequently, victims are still without food, water, clothing, shelter, and comfort. ASLTV’s efforts are to ensure that supplies and funds will get to where they are needed most through grassroot teams.
Our initial response to the situation:
• Assessing and identifying the real needs of the affected areas by hearing directly from local people.
• Traveling extensively in Ampara and Batticaloa’s coastal belt and meeting with local NGO’s.
• Working with local NGO’s, respected village Elders, youth groups and directy affected individuals to identify the most efficient way to reach the people and address their needs immediately.
• On a grassroots level, we are identifying people who can effectively supplement relief and reconstruction.
• ASLTV is evaluating and monitoring the support response directly.
Here’s how it works:
• Direct Aid Response Team (D.A.R.T.) to assess the needs of individuals annd communities. We have a local coordinator on the ground in Sri Lanka, Nazly Yoosoof, who is coordinating this project.
• Locate and acquire resources directly - including knowledge, expertise, equipment, supplies or funds.
• Create simple and transparent pathways to reach the people.
• Assess, monitor and refine plans based on evaluation.
