On December 26th, 2004, after decades of civil war which has taken more than 65,000 lives, it took less than an hour for the tsunami to shatter the lives of hundreds of thousands who live and work along the coast of Sri Lanka.
The goal of Aide to Sri Lankan Tsunami Victims (ASLTV) and the Direct Aid Response Team (DART) is to provide immediate assistance to areas most in need and to support long-term rebuilding of these communities - regardless of ethnicity, religion or caste. ASLTV was organized in Los Angeles by Nisha Rodrigo, D’Lo, and Nzazi Malonga. Nisha and D'Lo are Sri Lankan's from opposite sides of the tracks. Nisha is Singhalese and D’Lo is Tamil. Nzazi is Congolese and our coordinator in Sri Lanka, Nazly Yoosoof, is Muslim. Truly a multi-cultural collaboration. |
